This is a Bogeyman subclass.

Powered by the magic of crystals and springs, the automaton clicks into view, its mechanical eyes looking up the stairwell inside the tower. The villain is climbing the clock tower, and the time of the town will become out of joint unless he is stopped!

An automaton is a metallic creature of cogs and gears. You may or may not still have a heart deep inside, but on the surface you are all machine.

Source: Original.

Subclass Abilities

Clockwork Construct

You keep your general shape, but your body is made out of metal with moving cogs visible where there ought to be flesh. A simple cloak gives you a degree of anonymity, but the tick-tock beat of your mechanical life can be heard when close. When interacting with humanoids, you suffer disadvantage on Persuasion checks. The reaction you provoke is fear mixed with a strange curiosity. You can conceal your nature with covering clothes, tough close observation and Intelligence (Investigation) checks against your Charisma (Deception) can discover your true nature.

Your creature type changes to construct. You gain immunity to disease, sleep, poison damage, and the poisoned condition. You do not need to breathe, eat, or drink, though you still require periods of rest. Your Dark Strike deals bludgeoning damage.

You gain proficiency with all martial weapons and with tinkering tools. If you already have this proficiency, choose any other toolkit you gain proficiency with.

Impose Perfection

At 1st level you gain learn the Mending spell. Intelligence is your spellcasting attribute for this spell. Mending can be used to heal you, each application of this spell heals a number of Hit Points equal to your Proficiency Bonus. You cannot use Mending this way when you are taking a long or short rest.

Mechanical Perfection

Beginning at 3th level, you gain immunity to the paralyzed, petrified, and stunned conditions and to any spell or effect that would alter your form.

Metal Hide

At 6th level you gain resistance to bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage. Magical weapons ignore this resistance.

Tool Use

Beginning at 7th level, when you inflict damage with a melee attack, you can use a bonus action to add damage to that attack equal to the roll of a Dark Strike die. This damage is of the same type the weapon normally inflicts.

Mechanical Precision

Starting at 11th level, you score a critical hit on an attack roll of 18, 19, or 20.

Have a Heart?

Beginning at 15th, you gain immunity to the charmed and frightened conditions.

Infinity Engine

When you reach 20th level, you gain resistance to all types of damage.

Designer's Notes

Another tanky boogieman, the automaton is particularly resistant to conditions.
