Egyptian Astronomy

The Egyptians consider their magic to have three traditions; priests, mathematicians and engineers. Priests use mostly ritual magic. Mathematicians are the most versatile, with a wide selection of fast spells. Engineers build great edifices and imbue these with magical powers: they rarely cast magic directly. These rules focus on the abilities of Mathematicians and to some degree priests.

Regular magic is rare in the Nile Empire, it seems to be based on non-Egyptian traditions. The native Egyptians use their own magic known as mathematics and engineering. This is an application of the theorems of community, contagion, similarity, time and voice that uses the positions of the stars of heaven to create magical effects. The main problem with this is that the ritualized spells are very difficult to research, but the results are impressive.

The magic of the Nile Empire is powerful, but slow. Mathematicians, engineers and priests of the Egyptian religion wield the immense power of the stars. But quick and easy magic, like that of Aysle, is not available here, all magic is a rather slow and complicated process involving time and patience.

Summonables

Egyptian mythology is bizarre, filled with half-man, half-animal spirits and crosses between different animals. The spirits of the restless dead can also be summoned, and mummies and ghouls can be animated with ease. Egyptians are proficient necromancers.

Casting Egyptian Spells

The mathematician must have his charts and tables, as well as a note block and stylus, to cast spells. A separate astronomy action is required for the casting of an Egyptian spell. This is a separate 3-shot action.

Roll an open die when performing the astronomical calculations. Subtract the number of planets which naturally configure that day from the die roll. Results less than zero count as zero. When the calculations are finished, the spell can be cast or aborted as needed. The result of the mathematical calculations are then used as the negative die in the spellcasting test.
