Thorn Items

Amulet of the Pact

The physical seal of a pact of service between djinni and men, this amulet can be used to summon a particular genie, to do the user's bidding. Summoning the djinni costs a Magic point. The drawback is that the djinni will occasionally demand services in return; before attuning to the item, the user must render some service, and the deal might need occasional "renewal", with new services.

The Armor of Brass

A jumble of brass jewelry, armor pieces, chain links and pointy bits, the Armor of Brass appears decorative but useless when worn by someone not attuned to it. Once attuning by purchasing at least one item schtick, it can alter it's form to become armor, weapons, utilities, clothing and so on. It always remains brass.

It's true purpose is shrouded in mystery, but it appears to be a dwarven bondage device. The drawback is that a sorcerer with the proper magical keys (only possessed by the dwarves) can remote-control the armor, automatically moving it and it's wearer like a mannequin, with a Strength equal to his Sorcery skill. A second drawback is that it tends to revert to it's natural form, that of a set of bondage chains, when the wearer does not actively shape it to some other form. There is a slight bonus; the bound-up wearer might suffer impairments, but these do not reduce her Dodge or other defensive values, except against attacks and stunts aimed to bind, wrestle or otherwise capture her.

Unlike many devices, there is no set chain of effects that must be purchased in order, instead the Armor of Brass has several effects that can be bought independently of one another.

  • It can form armor, at two points of armor per schtick, with no flaws or penalties. It cannot form more than four points of armor.

  • It can form weapons; for a single schtick, the armor can be shaped into a weapon form. This tends to be claws, punching-gloves and such, forming an integral part of the armored suit, with a damage rating of Strength +4.

  • It can be used to bind others. It can simultaneously hold a number of target's equal to the picks in this effect, but each must be tied up separately. A target is tied up when a wrestling stunt scores a Setback (on an Outcome matching the target's Strength or Agility, as appropriate).

The Talisman of Gaia (3 schticks)

A strand of cord with a loop in each end, that are twisted around each other in such a fashion that it forms a circlet, that can be tightened or released at will. It can be expanded up to one-foot radius, or tightened down to 3". It is designed to be worn as an ornament around the neck. Putting on or removing the talisman takes three shots in combat.

While worn, it disrupts all Sorcery and Creature Powers effects. The wearer can never use or benefit from Sorcery or Creature Powers. In fact, even permanent beneficial effects are disrupted, so you cannot put the talisman on after receiving helpful effects like healing or regeneration without loosing the benefits.

  • The talisman can duplicates the Creature Power Damage Immunity to the following, affecting all variants of each power, since your own powers are suppressed. Note that some variants of these powers are not affected by these forms of Damage Immunity.

    • Blast
    • Creature Powers
    • Sorcery
    • Summoning

  • It is possible to overpower the effect of the talisman, with a much increased risk of failure and backfire. If you try to do this, you must spend at least one Magic point on a Desperate Effort, and suffer a negative modifier equal to the wearer's Magic rating, but it otherwise works normally. Non-sorcerers can spend Magic points to cancel out the penalty imposed by the amulet, but can never get a net bonus.

  • The user of the amulet can try to negate enchantments simply by coming close the enchanted object. The talisman cannot negate the powers of Supernatural Creatures, but it can negate lingering effect of creature powers. Make a Magic attack roll with a difficult equal to the target's Magic or five plus the items number of schticks. Success negates the power for a scene.
