Quote
One doesn't have to "be somebody" in order to fight.
Background
Comprised entirely of Jewish pilots who defected from the Industrial States of America, the Deborah Squadron of the People's Collective's "Dusters" helps patrol the border between the Collective and the ISA. The Deborahs are remarkable for being Old Testament people in a land ruled according to New Testament precepts. Their distinction is both a blessing and a curse--the members of the Squadron are often held up as symbols of the struggle against Fascism (which has made them a target for some of the ISA's German "advisors"), but at the same time face incredible pressure from their Collectivist comrades to convert to Christianity. This pressure has led to the pilots being more than a little testy at times when dealing with their non-Jewish neighbors. When asked why they decided to move to the People's Collective rather than the Empire State or another state currently at odds with the ISA, the squadron's commander is quick to point out that she and her pilots would rather be somewhere where one doesn't have to "be somebody" in order to fight.
Based out of Fargo's Hector Field, the Deborahs all pilot ISA-built planes, with the exception of the lone Defender piloted by the CO. The pilots have learned to perform basic maintenance on their planes in order to avoid some of the more overzealous proselytizers among their ground crews, and have consequently spent more time on the ground fixing and maintaining their planes than in the air fighting raiders and privateers from the ISA. Though they do not hold to most of the tenets that the People's Collective adheres to, the Deborahs remain devoted and loyal to their adopted home and work hard to maintain a high state of readiness.
