Fencing Schools and RL

The fencing schools given here are not based on a deeper understanding of historical fencing. They are first and foremost a game mechanic. Still, there is some correspondence between these fencing schools and historical fencing techniques. See also history of fencing on wikipedia.

Fencing Schools

  1. Agrippa Camillo Agrippa is a representative of the French school of fencing, and is similar to or a development of the Bolongese style.
  2. Bonetti Rocco Bonetti was an Italian fencing master active in England. Mentioned in Princess Bride. See History of Fencing. The style as described here is similar to that of George Silver, a native English fencing master.
  3. Capo Ferro Ridolfo Capoferro, Joseph Swetnam.
  4. Carranza School: Destreza
  5. Concentric: Frederico Ghisliero
  6. Firentine This is a traditional, older-style Italian school, whose name is a mix of the city name Florence (English) and Firenze (Italian name of the city). Two-weapon fighting techniques have traditionally been associated with fencing schools from Florence, tough this might be a misapprehension.
  7. Grazzi: Giacomo di Grassi, German shcool of fencing.
  8. Hard Knocks: Somewhat related to savate and la canne, this school is largely fictional and self invented. It incorporates elements of the monk of the empty hand archetype and the Improvised Weapon Mastery feat.
  9. Hayd'n This is the style closest to the original duelist prestige class, it is also the most modern of the fighting styles, similar to academic fencing.
  10. Military Another style that lacks firm historic founding, the military style is an adaption of fencing techniques to a military setting.
  11. Tibault Girard Thibault, Salvator Fabris
