A penitent priest is a priest with a complicated history who is trying to right his own wrongs. What this wrong was varies from penitent to penitent, but it often involves a dramatic change in alignment and faith. As a reminder of their past experiences, the penitent carries a curse. Penitent priests are often zealots, striving to prove their new devotion is deep and sincere. They are charismatic individuals, less schooled but more enthusiastic than most warpriests.

Class Information

This is a warpriest archetype with an oracle's curse.

Hit Die: d8.

Starting Wealth: 5d6 × 10 gp (average 175 gp.) In addition, each character begins play with an outfit worth 10 gp or less.

Class Features

The penitent priest has all normal warpriest class features, except as noted.

Charismatic Blessings

A penitent priest uses Charisma instead of Wisdom to determine the effects of blessings. This modifies the blessings class feature.

Penitent's Curse

A penitent priest suffers under an oracle's curse. See also Apath oracle's curses. All references to the oracle class or spellcasting instead apply to the penitent priest equivalent.

Spells (Divine)

A penitent priest is a spontaneous caster that uses Charisma as their casting ability. A penitent priest casts and learns spells like a bard, except that they cast divine spells, have no special rule about verbal components, and that they use the cleric spell list. A penitent priest's highest level of spells is 6th. Cleric spells of 7th level and above are not on the penitent priest class spell list, and a penitent priest cannot use spell completion or spell trigger magic items (without making a successful Use Magic Device check) of cleric spells of 7th level or higher. This modifies the spells class feature.

Sacred Armor (Su)

A penitent priest does not gain quite same degree of sacred protection that a normal warpriest does. At 7th level, the penitent priest gains the ability to enhance his armor with divine power as a swift action. This power grants the armor a +1 enhancement bonus. For every 6 levels beyond 7th, this bonus increases by 1 (to a maximum of +3 at 19th level). The penitent priest can use this ability a number of minutes per day equal to his warpriest level. This otherwise works as the warpriest's sacred armor ability, and modifies that ability.
