This is a Rogue subclass for 5A.

A pet wrangler is a rogue that uses a pet as a part of their career as a rogue. This animal is unusually intelligent and able to imitate the rogue's own skills.

Subclass Features

Bonus Proficiency

At 3rd level when you pick this archetype, you gain proficiency with Animal Handling. If you are already know that skill, you gain proficiency in Nature or Survival. If you are proficient with all these skills you can pick any skill of your choice.

Beast Partner

At 3rd level you gain a beast partner. The companion uses the Beast partner stat block, which uses your proficiency bonus (PB), The beast is friendly to you and your companions and obeys your commands.

This is a Tiny animal, like a cat, monkey, or small dog. It is unusually clever and understands one language of your choice. In addition you can choose one of these abilities for your pet to have.

  • It has a fly speed of 40 ft.
  • It has a climb speed of 30 ft. and articulate hands.
  • It has a climb and swim speed of 20 ft.
  • It has advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on hearing or smell.

In combat, it takes its turn on your initiative. It can move and use its reaction on its own, but the only actions it can take on its turn is the combined Dodge and Hide action it is capable of (see below), unless you take a bonus action on your turn to command it to take another action. That action can be one in its stat block or some other action. If you are incapacitated, the beast partner can take any action of its choice, not just Dodge or Hide.
