Rex Hellbat

Designed and built by Rex Reason, pilot extraordinaire from New Jersey, ES, the Hellbat is still a one-of-a-kind aircraft, though a few more are planned. It remains to be seen if it is ever put into general production.

Rex used to pilot the Avenger, and even though the Hellbat is a very different craft, it still performs and shoots like a somewhat heavier Avenger. But many design elements are new and fascinating. The pusher-puller design, with one propeller at each end of the fuselage, gives excellent payoff from the rather lackluster Wright R-1350s engines, salvaged from a crashed Warhawk. Even with these engines, the Hellbat is capapble of almost three times the acceleration of a comparable wing-mounted engines.

The canards are inspired by the Bloodhawk, and like the Bloodhawk, it seems likely that the Hellbat can achieve much greater speeds with a better engine, at least that's what Rex's power-dive testing indicates. In later models, Rex hopes to incorporate a more modern engine.

 

Counters

Becasue the Hellbat is a model, there is no need for us to make a paper counter. I have included photos of the plane from straight angles, that you can print and cut out if you like.

Modeling

Built out of one Stuka (mainly the wings) and two Zeros (the fuselage and canards). These models are not to scale with one another. They are from games collection, Milano, Italy.
