Campaign Background

This campaign is centred on Coeranys, the Realm of Mist, traditionally an unimportant kingdom at the fringe of the eastern marches.

Darien Avan spent some years in his youth as regent of Coeranys. Though no one can put the blame on him, the realm suffered from more intruiges during his time than at any other time. The current plot line began in the year 1499, when his last plot put Lady Eluvie Cariele on the throne.

The lady arrived in Coeranys as a refugee from the realm of Cariele in the north. Her family had been driven out by ruthless guilders and scattered to the winds. She was of a royal line and Coeranys was in need of an heir. Traditionally, the ruler of Coeranys was elected by the local barons, and often a outsider. In this manner, the barons would not need to fear that one of them would gain too much power in the realm, and thus maintain their independence. So the young lady was a goodsend, and was elected as regent.

The lady wore a marriage ring when she arrived, but she would never say who her husband was. She was also pregnant, and gave birth in the year 1500. Over they years she has dallied with many men, and her children became the darlings of the kingdom. Many a baron though he saw the traits of his line in these children, and gradually the idea that one of them would succeed to the line of power became accepted.

Players are expected to play one of these bastard princelings. Characters can be of almost any bloodline and have almost any father, but the campaign premise works best if all are the children of Lady Cariele. This makes them pretenders to the throne, and also binds all the characters together with strong family bonds, for better or for worse.

To begin with, the campaign will focus on the domestic problems of Coeranys. The realm is underdeveloped and plagued by monsters and other threats for the young scions to try their might against. But gradually, I expect the political side of the game to become more important; characters will gain power, inherit lands and become involved in various intrigues.

The child (or possibly twins) Lady Eluvie was carrying when she arrived are to have a high blood rating, and a sort of special destiny await this child. I expect some player to play this role.
